Virginia Beach nail tech launches mobile salon after pandemic challenges – The Virginian-Pilot

VIRGINIA BEACH — Ne’Asia Perez has big dreams — and they come in the form of a 24-foot trailer.
Perez and her husband, Eduardo, are finishing up the conversion of the trailer into a mobile nail salon for her new business, Modesty Nails.
The 22-year-old, who acknowledges she likes to be unique, said she wanted to bring something different to Hampton Roads other than a standard brick-and-mortar shop.
“I’ve seen mobile dog groomers and mobile food trucks, but where have you seen a mobile nail salon?” she said.
The couple, who live in Virginia Beach, bought the 2021 Peach Cargo trailer in August, gutted it and started the renovations. When completed and open after the New Year, the modest but elegant space will have two nail tables and one pedicure chair, a waiting area, and reception desk.
Perez plans to be on the move with the salon to all of the seven cities while also maintaining a home base throughout the week.
Cedricka Dalton, of Portsmouth, was one of Perez’s first clients and has stuck with her ever since. She is looking forward to the convenience of the mobile nail salon.
“She can commute to you and get everything done,” she said.
It’s been a long road for Perez, who earned her license in January 2020 after graduating from the Nail Technology Training and Educational Center in Virginia Beach.
She was delving into her new career as a nail and wax technician just as the pandemic was starting.
Paying expensive rental space fees and then finding herself out of work when businesses were shut down due to COVID, Perez decided to take a leap of faith into entrepreneurship.
“I’m ready to now take the big step to be my own boss,” she said.
She credits her husband, whom she wed in March, and family for their ongoing support.
Eduardo Perez, a pipe fitter and carpenter, had built a small nail salon on the screened-in porch when they lived with family in Chesapeake so she could comfortably and safely continue her work.
Now, she’s ready to take her work and passion on the road.
“I want to pave the way for other young entrepreneurs who are operating in fear,” Perez said.
