Fuelled by YES! Yepp, that’s the tag of the company and indeed the Pune based startup Repos Energy has been true to their motto, with their vision to herald the world into a carbon-light future. The company’s core mission is to curate fuels of all kinds under one umbrella in a cost efficient manner powered by emerging tech, disrupting and transforming energy distribution in the country. Repose commenced its operations in 2017 with a smaller office but a whirlwind of a project with the Tatas. And it all started with an unassuming phone call by none other than the man, the (not such a) myth and the legend Mr Ratan Tata. It forever changed Repos Energy’s fortune.
Co-founder Aditi Bhosale Walunj recalls in a LinkedIn post the rendezvous with the maverick industrialist in the formative years of Repos as a story of Hausla and Junoon (zest and determination). When she suggested to her business partner and hubby Chetan Walunj, he quipped that the Tata chairman ain’t your neighbor that you could meet him at the drop of a hat! The ever relentless Aditi though never felt daunted by the magnitude of such a simple task as setting up a meeting with the Tata’s mai baap!
Without having a formal business education, the dogged couple had just one mantra to abide by and that is to never cower down with an excuse. Aditi remarks that a house built upon excuse would for sure crumble! Striking out NO as an option, the duo left for Mumbai with a sleek 3D presentation.
The Repos founders sent handwritten letters to the Tata Chair. Approached a couple of Tata’s confidants. Waited 12 hours outside their idol’s house. They were finally back in their room at 10pm and behold a call! Hesitant to answer at first, Aditi picked up the call regardless only to hear a gentle voice on the other end asking “Hi! Can I speak to Aditi?” Completely freaked out and half expecting, the voice at the other end said “This is Ratan Tata. . .got your letter. . .Can we meet?”
The rest is history. The meeting happened. The presentation too. Repos is fueled by Tata’s generous funding. The energy startup today has a presence in over 188 cities across the nation with business booming despite pandemic playing spoilsport. There are 1000+ business partners with Repos energy that does the last mile door delivery of fuels. All via their sleek app. The company has raised another round of fundings from the Tatas in May 2022, amounting to Rs 560 million in equity and debt. Speaking of the funding the
