Samsung has relaunched its Android 12 upgrade, with One UI 4.0 now becoming available to some of the most popular handsets once again. Samsung paused its original launch plans after reports started to surface about issues with the operating system boost, with some Galaxy owners left unable to use their phones following the installation. Fingers crossed, that’s all in the past now. Samsung must be pretty confident that its latest version of One UI 4.0 overcomes these issues to begin the rollout anew.
Three Mobile will slash 50% off your monthly bills for the first 6 months of your new Galaxy S21 contract – dropping from £48 down to just £24 a month. There is a small upfront cost of £29, but for that, you’ll be able to enjoy unlimited calls, unlimited text messages, and 100GB of 5G mobile data to take full advantage of the amazing Samsung Galazy S21.
Contract length: 24-months | Upfront cost: £29 | Mobile data allowance: 100GB | Total cost: £1,037
Want a Galaxy S21 and a laptop upgrade? Well, this blockbuster deal lets you do both. With a choice of four colour options, EE will hand over a free Chromebook to anyone who signs-up to any of the plans, which start from a competitive £37 in the latest EE sale.

One UI 4.0 will first become available for the Galaxy S21 range, including the S21 Plus and S21 Ultra, as well as the Galaxy Z Flip3 and Galaxy Z Fold3. These will be followed by Samsung’s flagship smartphone series from last year, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20 Plus, Galaxy S20 Ultra, and Galaxy S20 FE. The Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra can also upgrade to the all-new operating system now too.
One UI is the most recent mobile operating system built by the teams at Samsung. It was designed to alleviate some of the issues with using larger-screen smartphones, like the Galaxy Note series, by shifting all of the interactive elements of the user interface into the lower third of the screen – in reach of users’ thumbs. The top portion of the screen is filled with stylish titles, graphics or extra information that you don’t need to directly interact with.
The latest iteration, One UI 4.0, incorporates the biggest features from Google’s Android 12 upgrade, which launched earlier this year. One of the standout features of Android 12 is the new Material You concept, which customises a number of core parts of the operating system, including button colours, keyboard, and system widgets to place on the homescreen, based on what the underlying AI believes will be best suited to match the picture selected as your wallpaper. Third-party apps can also adopt the system, so the trademark Facebook blue could be replaced with a mint green – if that would better reflect the colour tones found in your current wallpaper and screensaver.

Samsung is introducing Material You into its own twist on Android with One UI 4.0, which could spur third-party apps to integrate the system much faster. Android 12 is also more secure than previous iterations of the mobile operating system with new indicators to show whenever the microphone or camera is in use by an app – even if it’s in the background.
With One UI 4.0 and Android 12 installed, users can choose to only allow apps access to an approximate location, rather than a precise one. There’s also a new Privacy Dashboard in the Settings menu, which will easily show which apps are using sensitive permissions when on-screen or in the background. If it’s been a while since you had a spring-clean of the apps on your handset, this could be a great way to spot any suspicious activity from an app that you’d forgotten you’d even installed.
Samsung isn’t the only one struggling with the rollout of Android 12. OnePlus pulled the plug on its OxygenOS 12 update – which incorporates the features of Android 12 – for the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro after a stream of users reported that it was riddled with bugs.
As always with Android, it’ll take a while before the latest version of the mobile operating system is available to everyone. But keep checking the Settings app to find out when the new version of the operating system is ready and waiting for you.
