Prada, the firm founded by a communist – Market Research Telecast

December 23, 2021
Prada is an Italian fashion firm, one of the best known and most prestigious globally. It was born in 1913 by Mario Prada under the name Fratelli Prada (Prada Brothers). He opened a leather accessories store in the center of Milan and, thanks to his designs and good finishes, he soon became a supplier to the Italian Royal Family.
When it came to management Miuccia Prada, granddaughter of the founder, in 1917, the firm took a 180 degree turn.
Who is Miuccia Prada?
Born in Milan on May 10, 1949, she received a doctorate in political science and until the end of the 70s he was a member of the Communist Party. She went to the demonstrations dressed as Yves Saint Laurent to confront the prejudice that people on the left cannot consume luxury.
He never showed much interest in the family business. In an interview with fashion critic Robin Givhan, she said that she did not want to enter the business world because it was a very uncomfortable position for a feminist.
Against all odds, in 1978 Miuccia Prada took command of Fratelli Prada with a very clear purpose: to revolutionize the controversial fashion industry.
Introduced a line of women’s footwear, which led to Prada international success. Since its inception, the Italian firm had been characterized by the design and marketing of high-quality leather accessories. Mario Prada’s granddaughter opted for a line of black nylon bags, and it was a success.
In 1992 he created a line of clothing and accessories inspired by his own dressing room. To launch it, he used his own nickname as the name of a youthful, innovative and colorful brand: Miu Miu.
In 2018 he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from the Fashion Awards 2018 awarded by the British Fashion Council (BFC). According to Forbes magazine, Miuccia Prada is the second richest woman in Italy. He has a fortune of 200 million dollars.
Over the years, he has accomplished something very complicated: to be a world famous fashion firm and, at the same time, to be very exclusive not only because of its high prices.
