Nothing has been rolling out some minor updates to the Nothing Phone (1) to fix some bugs, enhance camera quality, extend battery life, and more. However, Android 13 will be the next step for the overall device OS. CEO Carl Pei earlier revealed that Nothing’s first smartphone will get the stable version of Android 13 by early 2023, while the beta version rollout was scheduled for ‘sometime later’ this year.
Now, it looks like the startup is finally gearing up to release its Android 13 beta update for the Nothing Phone 1 soon, as it was recently teased by Pei on Twitter.
It appears that Nothing has now begun internal testing on the beta build, and the upgrade is likely to arrive in the next few weeks.
Pei’s tweet shows the smartphone running on Nothing OS 1.5.0, which is based on Android 13. The CEO did not reveal any specifics regarding the update, and only confirmed a beta update that’ll let users test the Android 13 before the stable update is released. Another tweet by Pei says, “First builds of Android 13 working much better than expected.”

Several Android 13 custom ROMs are available for download for users who want to try out the Android 13 experience on their Nothing Phone (1) before the official release. However, bugs and flaws are common.
Carl Pei earlier said, “We don’t rush to updates at the expense of user experience.” The comments came amid the roll-out of the stable version of Android 13 for Pixel phones and with flagships from major OEMs like Xiaomi, Samsung, Realme, etc. also getting a beta version of the upcoming Android OS.
Since launching Phone (1) last month, we have been closely monitoring feedback and have already released 3 system updates with continuous improvements on camera quality, battery life, as well as new features.
Nothing has promised three years of Android updates and four years of security updates with its smartphone.
