Nothing is set to kick off its first smartphone launch event at 8:30 pm today. The event, which is taking place in London, UK will also be the startup’s second ever product launch. Nothing has hyped up the phone (1) quite a bit over the past few weeks and has even made some key specifications official.
The Nothing phone (1) launch can be streamed live on the company’s website. There is no YouTube launch link for the event yet, so it seems users will only be able to follow the launch event on the Nothing website.
While founder Carl Pei has insisted that the phone (1) is about more than just specs, the company has revealed a few key bits. The phone (1) is kept ticking by a Snapdragon 778G Plus at its core, and it has a dual camera setup on the back comprising a 50MP Sony IMX766 main sensor. The phone (1) also supports wireless charging and features a new Glyph Light setup on the back, which also has a semi-transparent design.
Nothing phone (1) users may get a transparent case for the phone as part of the box package. A new tweet by user 丂んﾉ丂んﾉr (@ShishirShelke1) shows the white variant of the device unboxed, revealing what looks like a transparent TPU case inside the box.
Nothing confirmed earlier this month that the phone (1) will come with an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate panel when the company released a TikTok video showing the phone’s ‘Smooth Display’ setting option. However, as you can see in the video, the option comes as a single toggle allowing you to turn in off (for constant 60Hz) and turn it on (for adpative 60Hz/120Hz).
Check out the video, reshared by a Twitter user, below.
It seems users will not be able to force 120Hz on the device, at least for now, as there is no dedicated option for the same. Many devices from rival brands let you force their higher refresh rates in addtion to an automatic-switching or dynamic switching mode. Nothing could, however, add this feature later via an update.
Nothing is also set to reportedly launch a new variant of the ear (1) earbuds today during the launch of the Nothing phone (1). While not much is currently known about the new ear (1) ‘stick’ variant, we do know that the earbuds will feature slight design changes and come in a new package. The Nothing ear (1) stick was also spotted being certified by the BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) recently.
The Nothing phone (1) will sell in India via e-commerce platform Flipkart and users who have pre-ordered the phone will be able to buy it starting tonight. Flipkart had also revealed via a micro-site that users purchasing the Nothing phone (1) with an HDFC Bank credit card or EMI schemes will get a discount of Rs 2,000.
Those who pre-booked the phone for Rs 2,000 and will buy the phone with the HDFC offer will get a total price cut of Rs 4,000 on the device, including the pre-order price discount (Rs 2,000) and the HDFC discount (another Rs 2,000).
Twitter user Kuba Wojciechowski (@Za_Raczke) has revealed the four exclusive wallpapers that will come with the Nothing phone (1) and has shared a link to a downloadable zip with all of them in high quality. Check it out below.
The Nothing phone (1) may be first accessible only to users who used an invite code to pre-order the phone, but it will eventually go on an open sale, making the device available to all users. A new leak now suggests that this date could be July 21 for regions across Europe and Asia, including India.
As pointed out by some users on Twitter, it seems like the box packaging of the Nothing phone (1) will come in the colour of the phone. A new video thumbnail by YouTuber ‘Unbox Therapy’ reveals that the Nothing phone (1) comes in two different package colours – black and white, which also happen to be the two expected colours of the phone (1) itself.
One of the mysteries of the Nothing phone (1) that is still unresolved is the presenece of an in-box charger. A recent video showed that the Nothing phone (1) will sell in a slim box pack, without a charging adapter, adding to previous rumours that suggested the same.
However, some newer leaks also suggest Nothing phone (1) could come with a bundled charger in a separate box, which again could be on offer during the early sales. Here’s what tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) said
Despite all promotional material showing off the phone (1) in a single, white colour, leaks have suggested that the device has a second black variant also. This black variant will have black textured plates on the back instead of white ones, and will still feature the white LED ‘Glyph Lights’.
The Nothing phone (1) will compete against other upper-midrange phones in India including the OnePlus Nord 2T, the Poco F4, the iQOO Neo 6 and some other upcoming devices like the Oppo Reno 8 series. The Nothing phone (1) is the first smartphone from London-based startup Nothing, which has been started former OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei. Most of the key specifications of the Nothing phone (1) are already known.
With the new phone, the company is emphasising the design. The back has what it calls a ‘Glyph’ interface with LED lights at the back. The phone (1) also comes with wireless charging, which Qualcomm has specifically added to the 778G+ chipset for Nothing. The company is also sticking with a dual camera at the back and has shared camera samples as well. The dual camera setup includes a 50MP main camera and a second ultra-wide camera. It has also been reported that the phone will not come with a charger in the box.
