A recent report suggested that tech giant Apple is planning to make an all-in-one chip that can support cellular, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth functionalities on a device, which will contribute to the company’s push for replacing the chips inside its devices with homegrown components.
Now a new report by The Elec suggests that Apple intends to introduce under-display Face ID technology to iPhone 16 Pro models next year in order to allow for a larger display.
The report suggests that the new Face ID technology would reside right beneath the screen and merge with the rest of the display when it is activated. With this, users will only see the notch for the front-facing camera.
Based on the technical challenges remaining for under panel cameras to meet discerning brands quality requirements as well as panel manufacturers’ cost requirements, I still believe this roadmap makes sense for the iPhone. pic.twitter.com/3ck5X3sVcL
The Elec’s report is consistent with last year’s predictions made by supply chain analyst Ross Young that the iPhone 16 Pro models would include under-display Face ID.
And as the under-display technology isn’t ready yet, the display cutouts of the iPhone 15 Pro this year will remain the same as those of the iPhone 14 Pro. However, as earlier rumours have suggested, the whole iPhone 15 lineup is believed to feature a Dynamic Island, which also includes the two vanilla models.
